This tour follows the popular and successful trips to NIST after the previous HHC's in Fort Collins (2009, 2010, & 2013).

N.B. This special tour is for HHC 2016 conference attendees only. This is not a public tour.

Be sure to bring legal identification with you!
NEW INFO from Jim Burrus at NIST: "Leave any bags, laptop computers, backpacks, etc. at the hotel. Any such items you bring with you – even if they are left on your bus – will have to be scanned at the Visitor Center. It's just like going through security at the airport. That takes time. As it is, everyone will have to empty their pockets and remove any metal items (belts, keys, wallets, cell phones, etc.) and place them in plastic tubs for scanning. But adding a lot of backpacks and laptops to the mix will cost valuable time. Do bring phones and cameras because you are allowed to take photos of anything you see. If you arrive early (by 8:45 or even earlier if possible), and if your group does get through the security screening with time to spare, it will allow me to show you some added parts of the lab! Like a swing through our nanofabrication and precision imaging facility on the way to the Atomic Clock, for example."

— NIST can accomodate up to two groups of 15 each, alternating between the labs so each group can see each lab.

Photography

When asked about our use of cameras, NIST sent the following information:

Personal photography (and videotaping) is authorized in most areas of NIST. You will be escorted so that all your questions can be answered and make sure there are no issues. As a courtesy, before taking photos of people, such as NIST scientists in their labs, please ask permission.

Registration

Registration for HHC 2016 DOES NOT include the NIST tour. You must register separately if you want to take the tour.

VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL

You MUST register your name and required details (see below) with Felix Gross as soon as possible — first come, first served due to limited numbers.

If you are not sure you’ll attend HHC 2016, then please don’t sign up for the tour, since NIST only allows those whose names are pre-registered with them to take the tour. If you sign up and fail to show up, then nobody else can take your place. Let’s not aggravate people who would like to take the tour but can’t because somebody reserved a place and then didn’t use it. Thanks for understanding!

NIST requires that all visitors submit their names in advance, and that all visitors bring with them government issued photo identification. NIST make a distinction between U.S. citizens and foreign nationals so PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY if you want to join the tour:

Foreign Nationals

Here are the steps foreign nationals must take:
1. Send an email to the HHC coordinator of the trip (Felix Gross) asking for the “Foreign National visitor required personal information form”.
2. Fill it out completely.
3. Email the form back to Felix (not to NIST!) before the deadline: Monday, August 29, 2016.
Foreign nationals must bring their passport with them to gain entry to the tour at NIST.

U.S. Citizens

Details of all U.S. citizens must be submitted to the HHC coordinator of the trip (Felix Gross) by Monday, September 5, 2016. The detail required from U.S. Citizens is:
1. Your name. That’s all.

U.S. Citizens will need to bring photo id such as a driving license or passport with them to gain entry to the tour at NIST.
