Fast Food Around the Conference

by Dave Shier

For lunch there is always the cafe inside the hotel. But you’ll be in Southern California in the summertime and that means you should step outside! Besides there are a few reasonable places to grab a quick lunch all within walking distance. If fast food is not your cup of tea, click here for a guide to finer dining in the area.

These three eateries are only one block from the hotel (behind the Staples store):

Clayton Shurley’s REAL BBQ
800-577-4888

If you’re coming from the South, then you might want to skip this one, since I don’t think that you will consider fast food BBQ the real thing. But for anyone else, this sure beats a BigMac!

Quiznos Subs
949-660-8889

Depending on where you are from, you might know these as poorboys, hoagies, torpedoes, submarines, or just sandwiches. Whatever you call them, this is one of the better chains.

La Salsa Mexican Grill
949-475-2506

If your only exposure to Mexican food has been Taco Bell, then you must giv this place a try. On the other hand, if you know your Mexican food, then keep in mind that, like Quiznos above, this is a mass-market chain restaurant.

These three are a block away on MacArthur and Campus:

Starbucks

I don’t think I have to tell you much about this place. One thing that is worth noting is that this is one of the Starbucks that has T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi hotspot installed.

Tony Maroni’s Gourmet Pizza
949-222-0050

Like Starbucks, there’s not much to say about this place. It’s pizza!

Brueggers Bagels
949-852-9480

They make the bagels fresh here. Might make a nice breakfast change if you get up early and want to take a short walk.
